Temporary Residence Cards for foreign investors in Vietnam

Hi DMS Law office in Vietnam! I am going to open an FDI company in Vietnam next month. Can you advise me about residence card for foreign investor in Vietnam ?

From 01 July 2020, the Law No. 51/2019/QH14 dated 25 November 2019, shall come into effect. In order to facilitate foreign investors doing business in Vietnam, this amended law allows the maximum duration of an investor visa is 10 years, instead of 05 years (old regulations) in the Law 47/2014/QH13.

Before a foreigner is issued a temporary residence card for foreign investor in Vietnam, he/she must obtain an investor visa.  Please find details below.

Temporary residence cards (TRCs) shall be issued to foreign investors entering Vietnam with investor visas (visas ĐT1, ĐT2, ĐT3).

Temporary residence cards prescribed in point b Clause 1 of this Article have similar symbols as that of visas.

Validity of temporary residence cards issued to foreign investors in Vietnam:

Validity of a temporary residence card is at least 30 days shorter than the remaining duration of the passport.

Validity of a ĐT1 temporary residence card shall not exceed 10 years.

Validity of a ĐT2 temporary residence card shall not exceed 05 years.

The duration of a ĐT3 temporary residence card shall not exceed 03 years.

Expired temporary residence cards may be extended.
