Grounds for renunciation of Vietnamese nationality:
Vietnamese citizens who apply for renunciation of Vietnamese nationality for naturalization of a foreign country may be permitted to renounce Vietnamese nationality.
A person applying for renunciation of Vietnamese nationality may not yet be permitted to renounce Vietnamese nationality if he/she falls into one of the following cases:
-Be owing taxes to the State or have property obligations towards agencies, organizations or individuals in Vietnam;
- Be prosecuting for criminal liability;
- Be serving a judgment or decision of a Vietnamese court;
- Currently in temporary detention awaiting execution of judgement;
- Be serving the decision on application of administrative handling measures to send to educational establishments, medical treatment establishments, or reformatories.
Persons applying for renunciation of Vietnamese nationality are not permitted to renounce Vietnamese nationality, if it is detrimental to Vietnam's national interests.
Cadres, civil servants and persons serving in the Vietnamese people's armed forces are not permitted to renounce Vietnamese nationality.
The Government stipulates in details the conditions for being permitted to renounce Vietnamese nationality.
Therefore, a Vietnamese citizen who applies for renunciation of Vietnamese nationality for naturalization of a foreign country may be permitted to renounce Vietnamese nationality./.
